Default Value of used mods

Hi all, there have recently been 2 schools of thought on the value of used mods. One school seems to think that mods don't add any value to an item; while the other school seems to think that mods do add some value to an item. Personally, I tend to agree with the latter. I think the first school is from the buyer's point of view; whereas the second one is from the seller's point of view. Personally I'm of the opinion that once mods have been used, they lose roughly half their value, provided of course that the base item is of decent quality, i.e. worth modding.

My thinking is that buyers will sometimes (not always) want to replace existing mods, hence they do not place any value on those existing mods. To the seller, however, who has paid for those mods, whether directly or indrectly, will want 100% of the mod prices figured into the item price.

So personally, I think the 50% midpoint/compromise is a good one, although it is certainly up for discussion. Any comments/input are certainly welcome.

as a buyer i dont want perfect mods(20/20,+30) as i usually just stick zealous/vampiric and a defense upgrade's on just about everything i own and therefore would never pay extra for them

in all cases with selling i dont think you ever increase the value of the item more the mods cost, so why actually bother adding them in the first place

just what i think

PCing is bout buyers and sellers...sellers decide the supply factor, and buyers decide the demand factor....so BOTH work mutually together
like i mention before, it is technically wrong to say that adding mods do not increases its value...THE FACT is for a seller, the amount you invest in the mods do not increase proportionately with the value of the weapon you're going to get...thus making it unprofitable...
as for a buyers point of view, on average, they prefer perfect mods as they buying a perfect one would cost less if they were to buy a clean one and mod it themselves..
i'll illustrate this concept...

Im interested in buying a req8 Brute 15%always -10ar... i value the item [email protected]
Bacon has a req8 15%always -10ar 20/20 +30hp..he wants them for 580k
Stu has a req8 15%always -10ar +20hp +1armor..he wants them for 550k
a 20/20sundering hilt cost 80k, a +30hp pommel cost 60k (market value)
if you were me...which would you buy...
if you were Stu would you mod the item perfect and sell it to me for 600k, which is the max i value the item at..

one thing to note is that, on average, buyers prefer modded items..
of course they're different buyers out there which prefer to mod them to their own liking for other purposes...these group of buyers are the ones who are not willing to pay extra for the mods..thus to this group, modding the weapon will not increase the value of the item..

I have sold plenty of items that were clean that sold for the same price as fully moded.... other times it seems easier to sell with mods.. as I've had items that I just had mods sittin around and added them and the buyer was like "just what I wanted!!!" and was about to get more outta the sell... depends, but most of the time it's not worth it unless high end items. I think it can be said for certain that if you get an item pc'd for below 100k you DON"T wanna put 100k worth of mods on it...

i have never and wil never mod a weapon to sell. even if it is the most expenisve weapon imaginable i wont. waste of my time tbh. i love it when idiots wisper you wanting to see xxxxxxx weapon but say they dont want it as it has not got a perfect fortitude upgrade, im like dude its a 500k weapon a perfect fortitude upgrade is a fraction of the weapons value.

a couple weeks ago, i had a guy ingame ask about a sword i was selling. the sword had 10% furious and +30hp on it cause i had modded it for self use. but as with everything i get my hands on that i don't customise, it gets resold eventually.

he argued that the 10% furious did not add any value to the sword and that i should lower my asking price. he then recommended i put a 20/20 sundering on it which would allow me to raise my asking price even more.

my response:
- my asking price was for the skin, req and inherent 15^50. the mods are a free bonus
- not everyone thinks that highly of sundering
- suck my b@||$

(ok ok, so i didn't really say suck my b@||$, but it made the story funnier )

lol, yeah, I think I found the exact same guy ... as I had an item listed on guru auction page and he took time to e-mail me telling me my starting bid was too high since it didn't have 20/20 sundering and 30hp, and that I should be asking half of what I listed it at... I told him I know my prices, sundering sucks, and never e-mail me again.

Agrees with the main idea under all that noobish text, and as for the b@||$ sucking, only hotties are allowed.

i dont know why players are so crazy for ugly skins: zodiac, celestial, crenelated.
In my opinion all these skins sucks.I've noticed people lice 20/20 sundering too,and my in my opinion it sucks too. i prefer to mod my weapons with fortitude and armor +5(bonus all the time).
I totally agree with extra(mods are a free bonus) but we do not make the prices and the market. Noobs make the market.I will never pay extra for a modded weapon.
The sticky made a top of more desirable skins with zodiac and celestial on top.
if you ask me,oni and fellblade should be first and zodiac just above falchion.

yes, what i like you might dislike. But we influenced the market a little. Not me,papi did.Its all about the taste
If i were to start a thread with most desirable skins and i were to put katana on top of the list in 1 month this sword would be the most wanted .

Thanks for the replies guys! Some very good points so far, but let's do try to keep it on topic, shall we? Anyway, just one quick clarification. I wasn't talking about modding an item with perfect mods just to sell it, I was referring to the situation where you somehow come into possession of a fully/perfectly-modded item. The buyer and seller could potentially disagree on the value the mods add to the item, and this thread aims to clear up some of that confusion that sometimes results.
